Trains in Cuba are vary in
quality. the tourist trains are reasonably comfortable (air-conditioning)
but not up to international standards. They are frequently late. The train
from Santiago to Havana takes about 14 hours. It has stops among the way,
but it isn't always possible to reserve seats or enter the train. The
"special" between Havana and Santiago is an experience for those that like
to take the train. That will cost about $50. Note that there are no sleeper
cars and no restaurant cars. Take your food and drink with you. Cuba
railroads also recommend to take a flashlight and to watch your luggage at
all times.
